What does SB621 do to Marion County?
- Removes the authority of the Sheriff's Department from the voter elected Sheriff and places it under the Mayor.
- Allows the controller to change the budgeted funds appropriated to an office, department, or agency at any point in the year.
- Requires a candidate for mayor to live in the city for at least one year (instead of five years) before taking office.
- Requires a candidate for member of the city-county council to live within the council district for at least one year (instead of two years) before taking office.
- Provides that in Marion County, a township board consists of five (instead of seven) members.
- Requires absentee ballots in Marion County to be counted at a central location.
- Effective January 1, 2016, it will reduce the membership of the city-county council from 29 to 25 members by eliminating the four (4) elected at-large members.
